Kevin Porter – 1978, 10.8 APG
Porter is one of two Nets to ever average more than 10 assists per game in a season, along with Jason Kidd. He was dealt to the Nets from the Pistons early in the season and immediately became a difference-maker for them. Porter averaged 10.8 assists and 16.2 points per game over 74 appearances with the Nets to ultimately lead the league in assists. It was a bright but short stint with the Nets as he returned to the Pistons the following season.
Jason Kidd – 2008, 10.4 APG
Kidd is one of the best floor generals in NBA history, and he had some of his best seasons with the Nets. He popped off for 10.4 assists per game over 51 outings with the Nets in 2008 before he was dealt to the Mavericks. Kidd finished the season with a 10.1 assists-per-game average, which was good for fourth in the NBA behind Chris Paul, Steve Nash and Deron Williams
Jason Kidd – 2002, 9.9 APG
Kidd’s first season with the Nets was a memorable one. He put together an MVP-caliber season with 14.7 points, 9.9 assists and 7.3 rebounds per game and helped the Nets make it to the NBA Finals for the first time. Kidd was the MVP runner-up to Tim Duncan in what was an extremely close race. Ironically, Kidd did not lead the league in assists that season despite it being arguably his best all-around season overall. He led the league in assists per game in five out of six seasons between 1999 and 2005.
Kenny Anderson – 1994, 9.6 APG
Anderson was one of the most prolific passers of the early 90s with multiple seasons averaging over 9.0 assists per game. His best season in that regard came in 1994 when he dished out a career-best 9.6 APG on his way to earning the sole All-Star nod of his 14-year career. Anderson also averaged 18.8 points per game and started all 82 contests.
Kenny Anderson – 1995, 9.4 APG
Anderson followed up his All-Star season with another strong campaign in 1995. He averaged 17.6 points per game to go with 9.4 assists and 1.4 steals. The 9.4 assists per game was good enough for second in the NBA behind only Hall of Famer John Stockton, who had one of his best seasons that year. This ended up being Anderson’s final full season with the Nets before being traded the following season. In his five seasons with the Nets, Anderson averaged 7.8 assists per game.
